Diabetes - What Symptoms to Look for
Diabetes suffers often complain of more infections than average healthy people. This is because people who have diabetes have a weaker immune system, especially when the disease hasn't yet been diagnosed or treated. Many report urinary and skin infections among the most annoying of infections in diabetics. Your doctor should test for pancreatic function to see if your blood sugar levels are where they need to be especially if you are experiencing these types of infections.
Have you noticed your weight has started to fluctuate? Does it feel like you eat all the time but you're still losing weight? Has the weight loss started recently? Did these fluctuations start even though your diet hasn't changed? This kind of dramatic weight fluctuation is the most obvious symptom that you are developing diabetes. Diabetes causes this by wreaking havoc on your potassium levels which controls the amount of water in your body. As you gain or lose water, you gain or lose weight. If you find yourself ballooning up and thinning back down without any predictability it is time to call your doctor.
Do you experience sudden blurred vision? This is something that you won't be able to see if it is happening to someone else. However if it does happen to you it may be a sign that your insulin levels need to be tested. Have you ever heard of the term Hyperosmolar hyperglycemia nonketotic syndrome, it's just the medical term for diabetes. It is caused when body fluid is pulled out of the tissues surrounding the lenses of your eyes. It makes your eyes work harder to focus. If you experience consistent blurred vision you probably just need to visit the eye doc for glasses. Talk to your doctor if it is only every now and then or comes and goes without warning.
The symptoms of diabetes will likely be different for you than they are for other people. It all depends on the severity of the disease and how far along it is in your body. There are a few people who will never show a symptom. Others might experience all of the common symptoms of the disease. Why it's happening in the first place is always the first line of defense. If it's control of the disease you seek you must first recognize the symptoms.
